Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer found in the tissue that lines the body – particularly the chest wall. If you or a family member has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, choosing the best medical treatment should be your primary concern. However, because the leading cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure, you should also consider contacting an attorney with experience in asbestos litigation.
The main cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos products. You do not have to work in a foundry, factory, or automotive garage to develop mesothelioma. We have, for example, represented office workers, whose only known asbestos exposure was asbestos insulation in office buildings. We have also represented family members, whose only exposure was through washing work clothes contaminated with asbestos. It takes only a small amount of asbestos to cause mesothelioma, and for this reason, no level of asbestos exposure is safe.
If you or a family member has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may be entitled to substantial compensation. For example, you may be entitled to have the manufacturers of asbestos compensate you for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Workers’ compensation might also award disability benefits, and pay medical bills. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to receive substantial payments from bankrupt asbestos manufacturers.
Although you are busy considering treatment options, you should not hesitate to contact an attorney as quickly as possible if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma. Lawsuits have time limits. In Ohio, if you do not file your lawsuit within two years of the date of diagnosis, you may lose your right to file suit. This is true of both your lawsuit against the asbestos manufacturers, as well as the employer in Workers’ Compensation.
