Chemical Exposure
Occupational and environmental exposures to certain chemicals are well known causes of systemic injury and disease. This is different and apart from an acute exposure which immediately overwhelms the victim. In the acute situation the injury and its cause is relatively obvious. And if you are a victim of such an overwhelming exposure you may have legal recourse against those responsible. Our firm is well acquainted with those remedies and could take action on your behalf.
However, where exposures are less than acute, but the victim is regularly exposed to an unacceptably high level of a toxic chemical, disease may take months or even years to develop. In these situations the cause of the disease may be overlooked if the situation is not brought to the attention of skilled medical or scientific experts. It is in this type of case that the expertise of Robert E. Sweeney Co. LPA, comes into play.
We have broad experience in cases involving benzene exposure, where the benzene content of a solvent may be responsible for causing aplastic anemia, or various forms of leukemia. Other well known toxins in an industrial setting would include lead, mercury, beryllium, chrome, nickle, formaldehyde, and vinyl chloride, just to name a few. In addition to causing serious injuries to the person, these chemicals may also cause great damage to the environment if there is an unprotected release into the soil and water table.
Our firm evaluates the merits of any suspected case of latent chemical disease or injury on a case-by-case basis, and would welcome any inquiry where you suspect that injury or damage has been caused by such exposures.
